The Role of Rhyme in Learning to Read
In the ever-evolving landscape of early childhood education, one timeless element seems to be fading into the background: rhyme. Rhyming has long been a crucial component of early literacy development, aiding pre-readers in honing essential skills. However, as modern educational approaches shift, we find ourselves straying from traditional methods such as nursery rhymes. In this post, we explore the significance of rhyme for pre-readers and reflect on how you might integrate this melodic tool into your child’s journey to eventually become a reader.

I am SO doing this!
You're probably thinking, "What does this have to do with reading?". Stay with me. I saw this cool photo on Pinterest and went down a rabbit hole to find the original author. It's from the Simply Rooted Family blog and Renee the owner has provided really great step-by-step directions for making this happen. She even includes ideas for themed or holiday shoots.

Are We Asking the Right Questions?
Reading to your preschooler is a crucial and enriching activity that lays the foundation for important cognitive (thought) and linguistic development (speech). Reading aloud to your child not only introduces them to the fascinating world of stories, characters, and concepts but also enhances their language skills. Exposure to a variety of books helps expand their vocabulary, improves comprehension, and fosters a love for learning. Additionally, reading together creates a bonding experience, strengthening the emotional connection between you and your child. It provides a comforting routine, promoting a sense of security and positive associations with books and learning.

A Favorite Christmas Tradition
I love this journal/book so much that it’s always part of any wedding gift I give. Our family has now grown to two journals and if our house were ever (God forbid) to catch on fire, they would be in my arms as I fled with my family and pets.

Nurturing Grit in Preschoolers: It’s a Balancing Act for Parents
In an attempt to raise strong, resilient, and capable children, the concept of grit has gained considerable attention in recent years. Grit, defined as passion and perseverance for long-term goals, has been linked to academic success, emotional well-being, and overall life satisfaction. As parents of preschool-aged children, you may be wondering how to instill this valuable trait in your little ones. However, like any parenting strategy, teaching grit comes with both positive and negative aspects that require thoughtful consideration.

Aspirational Sharing: Days with Grey
Days with Grey - My best friend's daughter couldn't stop talking about this site. While it's not specifically a "reading site", I still wanted to include it.

Why Re-Read a Book?
This is actually the title of a great article I stumbled upon and I love how succinctly it puts into words exactly what I feel as if as a parent and teacher I've known for years. It's also something that's now backed up by research.

Blocks…
My best friend’s daugher, Lindsey,is the mother to two beautiful girls. I few years ago, I gave said girls what I felt was the most beautiful set of building blocks I'd ever come across. Some of you may not know me as well as others, but I love giving gifts... not just any gifts, but unusual, fun gifts that are often unexpected. Though I did think this particular gift of building blocks was cool, I didn't (until today) consider it to be one of my "greatest hits".
